In my experience, this is one of the courses where doing some background reading can really help. I've therefore kept the written workload relatively light for these supervisions, and hope that you'll be able to spend an hour or two reading. I've included some recommended textbook material with each supervision, but if you prefer something less formal, AnandTech produces some pretty thorough and accessible write-ups of many CPU releases (e.g. AMD Bulldozer, ARM 53/57, IBM POWER8, Intel Haswell).
