We work at the crossroads of computer graphics, computer vision and visual art. We appreciate that the visual form is not limited to photographic fidelity. We have two research strands:
- image processing algorithms that allow the user to express their imagination;
- psycho-physical analysis of human perception, inspired by art.
We have published over twenty papers on novel techniques for transforming visual representations. These serve to enrich the artistic language of visual communication. Our work includes:
- interactive and automatic colour adjustment, decolourisation (all with Mark Grundland)
- image compositing (with Mark Grundland and Rahul Vohra)
- non-photorealistic image compression (with Mark Grundland and Stephen Brooks)
- texture editing (with Stephen Brooks)
- super-resolution (Lorcán Mac Manus, with Panasonic, and Gareth Williams)
- stereoscopic imagery (with Christian Richardt)
- random discrete colour sampling (with Henrik Lieng and Christian Richardt)
