As before the SRAM is divided up into cell buffers. Each is 16 words long. Figure 1 shows the organisation of a cell buffer as used for both transmission and reception.
In an outgoing cell that is not marked as local the remap index is used as the ``buffer number'' to fetch the remap vector information from. From December 1992 use of the local bit is discouraged as it will not be supported in future versions - all cells will go through the remap process. The timestamp field is written with the value of the TimeStamp register just after the final data word is written.
