My main research interest is using location-based models to improve Participatory Sensing. Real-time location of the survey participants can help choose who and when to send sensing requests to, and avoid annoying participants whose answers would not add useful new information.

As the first step in the project, I am focusing on improving location tracking energy efficiency on mobile phones. Simple GPS tracking runs down the battery in 4-5 hours, but it is possible to use data from other sensors to turn off GPS when it is predicted to be unavailable or unnecessary.
