Induction information

New Computer Laboratory research students: welcome!

After settling in at your College and collecting your blue University Card, Raven and other passwords, please report to the Graduate Education Office in FS05 on the first floor of the William Gates Building to register and collect your computer account login and password. Please try to avoid the first Monday of term as we are likely to registering M.Phil students. You should also email your supervisor to arrange your first meeting. Please let us know if you are unlikely to be registering before the first Thursday in October.

There is a great deal to digest in the first few weeks of term but we hope that many of your questions will be answered on the web site. We recommend bookmarking the PhD Resources page for future reference.

From time to time you may have questions the web pages don't answer. Just come and ask in the Graduate Education Office. If we don't know the answer, we will know who to ask.

The following information is especially relevant for the first week.

  1. The basics
  2. What is the CPGS?
  3. Research Skills Programme - details to follow

Unless a student can demonstrate that similar material has been covered as part of a Master’s degree, all research students in their first-year must attend and successfully complete the twelve units from the Research Skills Programme including core and optional elements.

  4. Important Dates
  5. Induction - from 13:00 6 October 2017 to 13 October 2017: See Induction session
  6. Who is here to help?

We look forward to meeting you in the new term and hope that you will enjoy your time in Cambridge.
