Security, Privacy and Accountability in AI-Driven IoT Systems

Assessment runs from week 2 onwards and consists of:

• A paper review for one paper per week, following the template provided (5% each, 7 weeks, totalling 35%). In the week in which you are presenting, your presentation slides will be assessed instead of a paper review.
• A short reflective piece of writing following the template provided (7% each, 7 weeks, totalling 49%).
• A mark for one of the individual presentations you will give during the course (the remaining 16%).

You are expected to read all assigned papers and to submit your paper review (or presentation slides in the week in which you are presenting) and reflective writing every week. Each paper review will be approximately 1000 words and will review a student-selected paper from that week, following the provided review form [PDF] [LaTeX source]. Each is worth 5% of your total mark and is marked out of 100, with 60 as the passing grade.

In the week in which you are presenting, you do not need to submit a paper review. Instead, your presentation slides will be assessed for this 5% component. The slides will be evaluated according to the presentation guidance, including how well the presentation follows the suggested structure, how convincingly it develops and defends its assigned flavour, and how well it adds value beyond the paper.

You will also produce a short reflective piece of writing following the [PDF] [LaTeX source]. Each is worth 7% of your total mark and is marked out of 100, with 60 as the passing grade.

Finally, individual presentations will consist of a 15-minute presentation followed by 5 minutes of Q&A about one paper from the session. Students will be assigned both the paper they will present and the nature of their presentation: advocate, critic, or balanced. Please see the [presentation guidance PDF] for further details.

Submissions are via Moodle and are due according to the following schedule. They will be marked and marks returned as soon as possible. You may make submissions at any point before the relevant deadline. Marks will be awarded and penalties for late submission applied according to ACS Assessment Guidelines. Only one submission for each piece of written work will be marked, no matter how many you submit.

NB. Please note that there is no class on 29 October, so the session schedule shifts by one week from that point. Paper reviews or presentation slides should still be submitted according to the regular weekly schedule above, while reflective writing is due after the corresponding class session (as also indicated in the schedule above).

Finally, note that this module is exempted from the self-certified extension process, as the cadence of review submissions and class sessions makes that impractical. Please contact us, as far in advance as possible, if you believe there is some insurmountable reason why you will miss one of the coursework submission deadlines or class sessions.
