Overview and Interests

Sentient applications use awareness of the physical environment to change their behaviour. Location awareness has long been explored and motivated the development of many successful location sensing technologies and applications. My research presents a new modality of awareness, that of human movements and physiological states.
In the context of this research movement is considered to be whole body, not localised which is considered a gesture. Examples would be a step, crouch, jump, lifting an object, etc. Movements can be characterised to extract parameters pertianing to that movement in isolation and regarding its relationship to other movements. We also consider the physiological responses to movement and states. See my home page for publications, demos, details on the sensing system and the process of movement recognition and characterisation.
