Stephen Cummins

About Me

I am a Visitor in the Department of Computer Science and Technology also known as the Computer Laboratory. My substantive role at the University is as the Head of IT & Digital Transformation in the School of Technology.

I am also Director of Studies and Official Fellow in Computer Science at Girton College. I also have part-time roles in industry and offer consulting services as an Enterprise Architect or Technical Architect.

My research interests include:

  • Knowledge Management e.g. Folksonomies and Ontologies
  • Software Engineering
  • Security and Privacy

Current Research Projects

Past Research Projects:

  • Isaac Physics - Online teaching platform for physics students
  • Ada Computer Science - Online teaching platform for CS students
  • North East XCRI Test-bed (NEXT) - I worked as an RA during a phase of the project which aimed to share postgraduate training course specifications using an open standard.
  • SoftWare Assessment Through Tagging (SWATT) - A project for my PhD, working on using Web 2.0 style tags as a mechanism for generating feedback to students on programming assignments.
  • Tanfield Mark Tracking System - This project involves empowering students in a local school to simulate changes to their coursework marks and see how it effects their overall course grades. The project was looking at how students simulations related to teacher set target grades and actual attainment.
