Abstract
This dissertation concentrates on issues related to the provision of a network based storage facility for digital audio and video data. The goal is to demonstrate that a distributed file service in support of these media may be built without special purpose hardware. The main objective is to identify those parameters that affect file system performance and provide the criteria for making desirable design decisions.
