Unseen Cambridge: The Geology Beneath Our Feet
Steve Boreham
Quaternary Palaeoenvironments Group, Department of Geology, University of Cambridge
Steve Boreham spent seven years researching the Pleistocene geology
the Cambridge District. The study included some 5000 borehole and
trial pit records, which yielded detailed stratigraphic data. Steve's
research unravelled a complex Pleistocene geological history including
the advance of the Anglian ice sheets, the genesis of the Ouse and Cam
river systems, major landscape changes and the development of the
drainage patterns observed today.
This presentation considers a variety of well-known Cambridge
landmarks, investigates their geology and attempts to reconstruct
their past palaeoenvironments. This is a new way of seeing Unseen
Cambridge: The geology beneath our feet.
