The talk will look at email as it was in the early 1980s: X.25 networks in the UK, the introduction of TCP & SMTP, mail gateways and how it all evolved to the current state. I'll give an introduction to X.400 and the Telco plans to take over the worlds email, and why it failed. Finally I'll talk a bit about what we are doing now at Isode, including making money from selling X.400 and work on new Internet standards for mobile messaging.
