The International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors

We are approaching the physical limits to continued shrinkage of
integrated circuits. The Semiconductor Roadmap has since the 1990s
provided the business plan for the development, at the precompetitive
level, of semiconductor technology and foundry equipment. It has been
at the root of the remarkable developments that have taken place in
silicon integrated circuits. This is a good time to survey the way
the Roadmap has worked in the past and to ask what lessons, if any,
can be learned from it , and applied more generally in the financing
and organization of industrial research.
