jPAN: A framework for developing ad-hoc network services

jPAN is a framework for developing applications and services that target devices with ad-hoc networking capability. It provides device naming and authentication, service discovery, point-to-point communication and context acquisition & sharing support. These facilities, which are essential to applications targeting spontaneously collaborating devices, are implemented in a compact package which makes efficient use of communication.

Omnistore is a storage management system built on top of jPAN, which demonstrates both the framework's capabilities, but also the design philosophy of distributed systems and applications targeting such environments. The main goal of the system is to simplify storage management by automating several of the related chores, which are currently imposed upon people.
