Future Innovations in Virtualization Technology
Scott Devine
Virtualization has become a mainstream technology for commodity x86
systems, but in the coming years, we will continue to see rapid
innovation in this technology area. These innovations will encompass
many areas, including hardware assist, I/O virtualization,
virtualization-aware software, additional services and solutions in the
virtualization infrastructure. This talk will provide a glimpse into
some of these innovations and also highlight some of the open technical
challenges and opportunities that remain.
Scott Devine was a Ph.D. candidate in computer science at Stanford
University prior to co-founding VMware. His primary research interests
are in operating systems and computer architectures, and he was a key
member of the SimOS and Disco virtual machine research teams. He holds a
bachelor's degree from Cornell University and a master's degree from
Stanford University.
