What mathematicians should know about the Internet: a case study
Abstract.
The IETF will soon sign off an Experimental Standard for multipath TCP.
This is the fruit of four years of work by a group of us in the computer
science department at UCL, aimed at implementing the maths in a 2005 paper
by Kelly and Voice, which was prompted by a 2003 paper by Han, Shakkottai
et al. I will describe the repositionings we made en route to deployment,
and discuss which aspects of the maths are in tune with the design
principles of the Internet.
