Registration and arrangements for Diagrams 2000

Diagrams 2000 was held in September 2000, so this information is only of historical interest.

Accommodation has been reserved at Pollock Halls, immediately adjacent to the conference venue. All rooms are single rooms, with a choice of shared or en-suite facilities. There are no rooms suitable for couples or families.

Events at some of the festivals in Edinburgh run at the same time as the conference. Consequently, demand for accommodation is very high. So, we strongly advise making arrangements for accommodation either at the conference site or elsewhere as soon as possible.

If you wish to extend your stay at Pollock Halls either side of the conference, please give the relevant arrival and departure dates in the on-line registration form. We cannot guarantee availability of accommodation outside the conference period. Additional nights will be charged at 27.60 GBP (standard) or 42.90 GBP (en-suite).

Late booking on registration and accomodation (after 23 June, 2000) add 10%. All prices are in pounds sterling.

Assistance with fees

Approximately ten bursaries of 100 GBP are available to graduate students studying at an institution in the UK. If you will be applying for a bursary, please indicate this on the registration form, and contact You should provide supporting evidence, perhaps in the form of a letter from your supervisor, for your application.

In allocating bursaries, priority will be given to presenters of papers or posters. Otherwise, award of a bursary will be made by the programme committee on the basis of need, and potential to enhance the conference.

Conference dinner

The conference dinner will be held at Jackson's Restaurant, in the centre of Edinburgh's Old Town on Saturday 2 September. There will be at most three menus (including a vegetarian option) available. The menus will be chosen from this range of options. The meal will start at 7.30pm, and conclude in time for the Festival Fireworks. Because of the fireworks, access by vehicle to or from the restaurant will not be possible. The streets will also be very crowded for the later part of the evening.

The charge for the conference dinner will be 30.00 GBP.

Procedure for registration

Submit the form by email.
You will then receive a reply by email confirming the details of your accommodation, and the amount payable.
Print out the reply, sign it, and fax or post it back to us, with credit card details completed, or cheque enclosed.
You will receive confirmation of receipt by email.

Cheques will be banked three weeks prior to the beginning of the conference (i.e. 11 August). Payments from credit cards will be requested two weeks prior to the conference (i.e. 18 August). Receipts will be issued at registration.

Cancellations and substitutions

In the event of cancellation after the end of early registration, we will have to charge the equivalent of the room rate for one night. This charge will be waived if we have a waiting list of people needing accommodation.

A substitution can be made at any time prior to the conference without charge.
