The Desk Area Network demonstrator built has provided a test-bed for the various DAN ideas. It has shown that interfacing to an ATM based interconnect is no more complex than to a standard bus, and that the DAN is capable of effectively supporting both multimedia and cache traffic.
Further work is underway to build an operating system and windowing system for the DAN, that makes greater use of its various properties.
