REGISTRATION
This page describes the procedure for handling registration for this
working conference. What should be the final version of the programme of daily activities is now available.
The Annual Conference of IFIP WG 11.3 has traditionally involved a
relatively small number of active participants, and the organisers this
year intend to maintain the atmosphere of a workshop. The target
attendance is 45-50 delegates. At present there is still space for about
another five delegates.
Only those delegates who have been through the registration process may attend the conference.
It will not be possible to register at the start of the conference.
The conference opens with an informal buffet from 6 pm on Sunday July 28th.
Delegate packs will be available from the conference office from 2 pm (see
the notes about what to do when you reach Cambridge),
also on the following morning before the start of formal proceedings.
The conference is residential. En suite
accommodation has been reserved in King's College, and the
conference and all meals will take place there. The conference will end
at tea time on Wednesday July 31st. It will be possible for delegates
to occupy their rooms until the morning of Thursday August 1st.
Registration process
Each delegate should complete the registration
form in order to receive an invitation to the conference (this will
be automatic for authors and members of IFIP WG 11.3). This site has
not been fully debugged - in case of problems read the News.
After you submit the form you will receive e-mail confirmation of the
data that you have entered. If any details are wrong please
reply to the e-mail giving corrections. Later you will be sent a
letter of invitation and an invoice, together with instructions for payment.
Although the conference is taking place in the UK all credit card payments
must be made through the Technical University of Darmstadt. All fees are
expressed in Euros; payment by credit card is acceptable, but payment in
Euros can be made by credit transfer if preferred. UK delegates who would
prefer to pay in sterling (UK cheques only, no credit cards) should
make a note in the Additional comments field. If you do not
intend to pay by credit card please inform km@cl.cam.ac.uk by e-mail.
Invoicing and payment
Each registrant will be sent e-mail with two attached .pdf forms, an
invitation and a numbered invoice. The invoice is for payment in Euros,
and can be settled by credit card. Please print off and complete the
payment form and FAX the credit card details to
the Computer Science department at the Technical University of Darmstadt.
State clearly which invoice(s) the payment will cover. If you are unwilling
to pay by credit card then a bank transfer in either Euros or sterling is
possible; for the relevant account details contact km@cl.cam.ac.uk
by e-mail.
During check-in at the start of the conference each delegate will be given
a printed and signed receipt on official conference headed paper.
Early registration
Delegates will notice that the registration fees do nothing to
encourage early application - there's no penalty for late submission.
Instead there is a different incentive to register early.
King's College Hall, where the Conference Dinner is to be held, can seat
up to 250 people. The college wine cellar extends across the whole area
beneath the floor of the Hall. Delegates who complete the registration
form on or before June 12th will be entered for a raffle; three
bottles of good wine from the cellar are the prizes. The raffle draw
will be held during the Conference Dinner.
What to do when you reach Cambridge
Ask for the main Porters' Lodge of King's College, which is at the Front
Gate off King's Parade (see the City Council map,
bottom of square A1, or the one that highlights King's).
These are both road maps, and do not show the best routes for pedestrians
in the city centre. The conference office (in Wilkins' Building, see the
clickable plan at the foot of the
directions
to King's) will be open from 2 pm on Sunday July 28th. If you arrive before
then the porter on duty will give you your key and direct you to your room;
in that case you should check in at the conference office later, to collect
your delegate pack, IP address and so on. After 2 pm room keys will be moved
to the conference office, and you should check in as soon as you arrive. For
a timetable of activities consult the conference programme.
Accommodation
The standard conference package includes accommodation for three nights:
arrive Sunday July 28th, check-out before the first session on Wednesday
July 31st. Optionally delegates can arrange to stay over either or both of
the nights Saturday July 27th and Wednesday July 31st (check out before 10
am on Thursday August 1st). Breakfast is provided following each night's
stay. Dinner is not available on either Saturday July 27th or
Wednesday July 31st.
A limited number of double rooms (en suite) and twin rooms (a few en suite,
the remainder sharing, so a bit cheaper) are available. Requests will be
noted as the registrations are processed. If you require accommodation for
two please select the option that you prefer, and indicate which alternatives
are acceptable in the Additional comments field at the bottom of
the Registration form. Double and twin room registration fees
include breakfast for two each morning. No extra meal other than breakfast
is included. Delegates who are travelling with families will need to arrange
their own accommodation, see the city tourism
pages, and should register as non-residential delegates. If two
delegates wish to share a room one should register for a double
or twin, and the other as non-residential; each should
indicate that they wish to share in the Additional comments
field.
The number of parking spaces is very limited, so if you are
intending to drive to Cambridge please get in touch with the King's conference
manager in advance; you should also get in touch with her if you
have any specific personal needs.
Contacting delegates during the conference
The best way of getting in touch with delegates during the working day is
through the IFIP conference office, which has a combined telephone/FAX/answer
phone number +44-1223-331411 (01223-331411 within the UK). If there is no
reply try either the College Conference Manager's office
+44-1223-331215 or the main College switchboard +44-1223-331100
(in the Porters Lodge, manned 24 hours per day).
Delegates who hope to collect e-mail regularly should ensure that those who
may wish to reach them know of that route.
Waiting list
July 22nd
The site was opened for use on June 1st. At present there are just
over 40 registrants (all of whom should have received an invoice). The
only known difficulty with the site is that requests for twin rooms were
not acknowledged correctly (now fixed).
So the more the merrier ... there's been a lot of interest
in the tour of the city on the afternoon of Tuesday July 30th, so it will
definitely go ahead. Payment will now be included in the invoice, cost
€6 per head.
