Save the right to vote!

An important vote in the Regent House has started on October 15th and runs until October 25th 5pm. Grace 1 of 27 June 2018 was originally introduced to fix an old problem and expand the right to vote on matters in the Regent House to Research Associates who are currently excluded for esoteric reasons. However a perversely amended version was introduced that actually strips the right to vote from many people. In short:

However you feel about certain issues, one thing is clear: loss of voting rights only leads to bad outcomes. Politicians often seek to disenfranchise their opposition, especially when they are about to introduce unpopular measures (see for instance the behaviour of Republicans in the USA). This proposed amendment goes beyond the bounds of reasonable discourse by attacking your right to participate. The amendment is also discriminatory against anyone who takes a career break, e.g. to raise a family.

If you are not currently active in the Regent House, consider that the people who are attempting to strip your voting rights may introduce some terrible measures in the future and you may regret not being able to vote against them. If you are a Regent House member with more than three years of employment, consider that you may lose many allies in the fight against whatever treachery is being planned by those trying to disenfranchise your colleagues.
