Communication Protocols

The has agreed to use OSI protocols as the basis for interconnecting conformant physical systems. These agreements are contained in the Protocol Specification [12]. This specification provides, among other capabilities, a service for communicating messages from a managing process to the agent process of a managed object and vice versa. A OS must operate in one of three modes:
  1. Agent: the OS only makes managed objects visible to other OSs, and does not manage any managed objects in other OSs.
  2. Managing: the OS manages managed objects in other OSs, but does not make any managed objects visible.
  3. Agent/Managing: the OS both makes managed objects visible, and manages managed objects made visible by other OSs.
