Managed objects may emit notifications when some internal or external event
occurs. Notifications are specific to the class of the managed objects that
emit them. The information contained within a notification is part of the
definition of the managed object class. The information in a notification may be
used to
generate event reports, which are sent across the interoperable interface.
Event handling in programming is a classic problem in user interface
systems and in network management systems. In fact, a very common
practical problem for engineers building network management
tools is reconciling different mechanisms for interfacing programs to
asynchrony.
