Roadmap

The main aspects of multimedia audio and video applications have already been convered, but the real advantage of the Internet is that other applications oriented around data can be coupled with the audio and video applciations. In this chapter, we discuss two example applications, a shared editor to illustrate distributed reliable data sharing, and a model for shared virtual reality or games, where reliability can be relaxed further.

The lesson to take away from this chapter is that for each application the designer needs to consider consistency and reliability anew.
