Performance

Here we take a look at some performance aspects of coding and compression of multimedia in packet networks. First we look at the sort of compression ratios that can be achieved. Then we take a look at the effect of network behaviour on received media streams. Finally we carry out a back-of-the-envelope analysis a particular compression algorithm to see what sort of CPU costs are involved.
