THE CANDIDATES AND RULES FOR THE PRE-ELECTION
Subject: election ...
Hi pacifists,
time goes by and we have to make a decision somehow.
I've computed the difficulty of maps according to all suggested sets.
1.0 stands for easiest, 5.0 for hardest. The algorithm is to minimize the
squared deviations to all suggested level sets.
The well known solution to this optimization problem is just to take
the mean values. This is the outcome for DOOM:
1.00 11
1.10
1.20
1.30
1.40
1.50 36
1.60
1.70
1.80
1.90 22 25 29
2.00 14 32
2.10
2.20 12
2.30
2.40
2.50
2.60
2.70 35 37 49
2.80 24
2.90 21 44
3.00
3.10 33 45 47
3.20 43
3.30
3.40
3.50 23
3.60
3.70
3.80 38
3.90 18 27 34
4.00
4.10
4.20
4.30 42
4.40 19 26
4.50
4.60 48
4.70
4.80
4.90
5.00
By simply taking 1.00 - 1.49 as easiest, 1.50 - 2.49 to easy and so on,
one derives this:
MERGED SET
easiest : 11
easy : 12 14 22 25 29 32 36
medium : 21 24 33 35 37 43 44 45 47 49
hard : 18 19 23 26 27 38 34 42
hardest : 48
But if you have a closer look to the distribution, you see some clusters
eg. 42 19 26 48. Trying to keep those clusters together in one subset
results in:
CLUSTERED SET
easiest : 11
easy : 12 14 22 25 29 32 36
medium : 21 24 33 35 37 43 44 45 47 49
hard : 18 23 27 38 34
hardest : 19 26 42 48
Now the same for DOOM II

My suggestion how to proceed is to make an election. Candidates are all
suggested level sets plus the computer generated as mentioned above.
Everybody has three votes for doom and doom2 each, without the
possibility to accumulate (otherwise everybody could give his own set
all three votes).
If no one has any objetions we can start the election now. It may last til
monday. Then we take the two *) best agreed sets (two for doom and doom2
each) and make a final election and then ..... we are ready (hip hip
hurray).
*) In the case of equal votes it could be more than two.
I hope you like that idea which garanties to be ready before the end of
next week.
Here is the (looooong) list of candidates:

Sorry, that list is very long, but nevertheless I think it's possible to
select three for doom and doom2 each.
Bye
Rini
PS: Ok it takes five minutes to select one's votes, but I see no other
fair way. (it would be easy to take just the computer generated
clustered sets as final sets, but I don't think this would be fair)
