Diagrams

Here is an incomplete list of diagrams I think are clever or have found useful. If you are interested in diagrams and displaying information I highly recommend "The Visual Display of Quantitative Information" by Edward Tufte. There are also the slides from a talk I gave to our research group called "How to draw a diagram".

	History of Programming Languages [web] A timeline showing the development and influences of various programming languages.
	World Greenhouse Gas Emissions Flow Chart [web] Plots the relative contribution to total Greenhouse gas emissions of energy generation and other activities.
	Energy Flow Chart [web] Shows the 2004 breakdown of how Natural Gas, Coal, Electricity and Petroleum are used within the UK.
	200,000 Years for Man's influence to disappear [web (article)],[web (image)] Some signs of our civilisation would persist for many years after our disappearance from the planet.
	Operational Windfarms[web] A map of the operational windfarms in the UK.
	International Networks Archive - Infographics [web] Lots of good graphics. One particular example is "Transportation" which shows the various forms of transport used around the world, of which the bicycle is the most common.
	Anscombe's Quartet [web] This is the classic example for why graphs and diagrams can be vital to the interpretation of data. Anscombe's quartet consists of four very different data sets with the same mean and variance (among other statistical measures).
	Earth at night [web] A view of the Earth at night made from a composite of many hundreds of satellite images. Note the Trans-Siberian railway and the coastal development around the Mediterranean.
	Sustrans National Cycle Network Map [web] A map of all the Sustrans cycle routes.
	A Green Ride [web] Plots the energy efficiency and speed of various forms of transportation. Its hard to be more efficient than an Oil Tanker and electric bicycles are more efficient than a Prius.
