Compare

This project aims to quantify and analyze the performance that can be achieved with distributed applications, such as NFS, over different high speed network technologies. The high speed network technologies being studied include ATM, FDDI, AN1 and 100-BASE T. Ideally the project would also like to include 100-BASE VG in its comparison. For for each technology it will analyze the contribution of each component of the communications path: NFS protocol, UDP, IP, network driver and operating system, to be able to see what could be done in each component to improve the overall performance. Recommendations as to the structure of the protocol stack used for each technology, together with raw performance data, will be produced.
