Royal Academy of Engineering Enterprise Fellowships
Up to £85K seed funding and salary support for 12 months to develop a commercial enterprise based in the UK. Business mentoring is also included. Postdocs and above are eligible. Annual call closing in early autumn.

Royal Society Brian Mercer Feasibility Award
Up to £30K to test the technological and economic feasibility of an idea. Projects should be completed within 12 months. Applicants do not need to have a tenured position, but must be in post for at least the duration of the award.

Royal Society Brian Mercer Award for Innovation
Up to £250K to develop an already proven concept or prototype into a near-market product for commerical exploitation. Projects should be completed within 24 months. Applicants do not previously need to have held a Feasibility Award (see above). 2015 deadline is 23 April.

EPSRC Impact Acceleration Account Follow-on Fund
To develop ideas which have arisen from EPSRC-funded research. Up to £60K for proof-of-concept, prototype development and market assessment. Several deadlines annually, but applications must be preceded by an Expression of Interest (seperate deadline).

ERC Proof of Concept Grants
For those who already hold an ERC grant which finishes less than 12 months before the PoC funding call (or is ongoing). Up to €150,000 for up to 18 months. Three deadlines annually

Innovate UK SMART Awards
Awards of £25-250K for R&D projects, including funding for pre-start ups. Grants can be for proof of market, proof of concept or development of prototype. Processed throughout the year (rolling deadline).
