Overview and Interests

My research focuses on energy-efficient techniques that involves cooperation between user terminals to achieve space diversity. This collaboration among user terminals is sometimes referred to as a cooperative network or as a formation of virtual antenna arrays.

According to this method, single-antenna mobiles in a multi-user environment share their antennas and form a virtual multiple-antenna transmitter that allows them to achieve spatial diversity. Cooperative networks are potentially the key to providing spectral efficiency and/or link reliability in future communication systems owing to the following reasons: First, limitations in size or hardware complexity of wireless devices such that sometimes not more than one antenna can be employed and second, the lack of scattering (correlated propagation) in bands above about 5 GHz.
