Lightning strikes

This page shows a heatmap of lightning events within a 300 miles (480 km) radius of our weather station, in the last 48 hours. The map updates every 30 minutes. On the overlay, white/red colours represent high density, while areas shaded in green or blue represent lower densities. The three scale circles have radii of 100, 200 and 300 miles, respectively.

No lightning activity

Please note that the position of lightning events is only approximate - as provided by the single antenna of our sensor, a LD-250 lightning detector by Boltek. The sensor uses the low frequency radio signals produced by the lightning's electrical discharge to estimate location (distance and bearing). We are planning to correlate our data with nearby sensors in order to improve coverage and precision.
