		     The ORL Teleporting System

Binary Distribution - Quick Start instructions.

			     Version 1.2

Introduction

This document will help you get started quickly in trying out the
ORL Teleporting System. The document 'teleporting.ps' gives a
more complete account of how the system works, what else it can
do, and how it can be configured and controlled.

What is Teleporting ?

Teleporting is a powerful method of manipulating a group of X
applications. In addition to the normal X session created by login
at a specific display, the teleporting system allows a user to
create a similar but relocatable X session called a 'teleport
session'. Once created, a teleport session can be made to appear
another display, or made to "dematerialise" so that it does not
appear on any display at all.

How do I get started using the Teleporting System ?

To use the Teleporting System without installing it, simply add
the 'bin' and 'scripts' directories in the Teleporting release to
your PATH environment variable, and type 'teleport'.

This should create your teleport session, as a new window in your
existing X session. In this teleport session there is a single
    client, an xterm.

Your teleport session can be controlled by the command 'teleport'.
Try 'teleport -help' to get some usage information. To move your
teleport session to another X display try 'teleport -display <name>'
where <name> is the name of the display, for example 'harpo:0'.

Remember. You must have permission to access an X display if you
wish to teleport there. An easy way of ensuring you have
permission is to log in to that display, or to use the 'xhost'
command. Much more is written about access permissions in the
    'teleporting.ps' document.

What now ?

You now have a teleport session. You should be able to run all
your favourite X applications within it, and carry them around
with you. Read the 'teleporting.ps' document for a more detailed
description of how to use the system.
