I visited my parents, and found that my father had concluded that the
scriptwriters are running out of plot lines.  He has therefore drafted
a few modest proposals for the future of the benighted residents of
Borsetshire:

Neil Carter is arrested -- charged with harbouring an escaped
prisoner.  Their children taken into care.  Susan Carter goes mad.

Mrs. Pargeter attempts suicide.  Nigel is too upset to marry.
Elizabeth understands.

Robin is suspected of having caused Mark's death.  Police drop the
matter because he proves an alibi.  He was in bed with Mrs. Antrobus.
Caroline is most upset, and may call off the marriage.

Shula is subjected to sexual harassment by Richard Locke.  This brings
on symptoms of miscarriage.  Only his prompt action saves Mark's baby.
This makes her fall in love with Richard.  They marry quite soon, but
it is not a happy marriage.  Shula goes mad.

The village shop is destroyed by an arsonist, killing Betty Tucker and
a customer.  This upsets Jack Woolley.  He suspects Peggy.  She says Oh
really Jack.

The dead customer proves to be Roger Travers Macey.  In his pocket
(fire damaged) the police find a confession saying that he killed Mark
by not slowing his car.

Sid Perks consults Robin Stokes about the possibility of becoming a
priest in the C of E.  Robin says But Sid, do you think that's wise?
Have you consulted your good lady?

Jill Archer found dead in suspicious circumstances.

Martha Woodford resigns from the shop.  Troubles come in threes, she
says.

John Tregorran returns and opens discussion about partnership &
capital infusion in Nelson's antique business.  Carol has died in
tragic circumstances.
