   Observe that mathematicians do not normally talk even to other mathematicians
   except a very few in the same sub-specialty. (cf Thurston's article in
   the Notices).

This type of comment is not condusive to starting conversation.  Nor,
I think, is this attitude consistent with the goals of the QED project.
