				 QED Workshop

			       May 18-20, 1994
			 Argonne National Laboratory
			    Chicago, Illinois, USA

The goal of this workshop is to determine whether it is possible to
change QED from a fascinating concept into a practical plan. For
background on the idea of the QED project, see "The QED Manifesto",
available by anonymous ftp at info.mcs.anl.gov:pub/qed/manifesto.

Our current plan is for the workshop to be small (20-30 people) and
quite unstructured. No formal presentations are planned, and no
proceedings will be published. Rather, we hope to operate as a
planning committee to determine what obstacles there are to beginning
work on QED and how those obstacles might be overcome. We hope to
address questions like the following:

  What will QED be?
  What will it not be?
  Where can we start?
What is a feasible early objective?
  Who will do what?
What can we get done before we leave the workshop?
  What will happen next?

A limited amount of travel support is available. In particular, it
may be possible to cover nearly all the reasonable travel and lodging
expenses of 20 participants. If more wish to attend and require
support, we may have to spread the existing funding (from the Office of
Naval Research) more thinly.

If you are interested, please respond to lusk@mcs.anl.gov by
February 15.
