Subject: HOL95 Conference Venue
Date: Thu, 20 Oct 1994 15:45:16 -0600
From: Phil Windley <windley@lal.cs.byu.edu>

Hi Folks,

We're trying to come up with the best possible venue for the HOL 95
confernce at the best possible price. We had thought about Snowbird, but
in talking to other conference organizers that have used Snowbird, we
decided that it might not be as nice as we'd thought.

We have come up with two options. We'd like your feedback on which option
you like best (and then we'll do what ever we please ;-):

Option 1: Sundance Resort

Option 2: Aspen Grove Resort (owned and operated by BYU)

Sundance and Aspen Grove are right next to each other in the same valley.
Both are about 15 minutes from Provo (by car). The scenery is spectacular
and there are lots of outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking,
horseback riding, etc. Now for the differences:

1.) Sundance is a resort. The rooms are very nice, there are two
restaurants, a store, etc. The downside is that its quite expensive:
$90-145 per night depending on what room you get. Also, Sundance does
*not* have volleyball, tennis courts, etc. because they try to cultivate a
more "reflective atmosphere."

2.) Aspen Grove is owned by a university, so the rooms are in large cabins,
there's no maid service, no choice in resteraunts (meals from a dining
facility)---in short its like a bed and breakfast. On the plus side, the
cabins are brand new, large, and include kitchens, etc. Also, because
Aspen Grove is run by the LDS church, no alchoholic or caffeinated
beverages will be served. On the plus side, rooms would be $20-30 per
night and conference fees would be considerably lower. Aspen Grove has
tennis courts, a sand pit volleyball court, a raquetball court and other
recreational facilities.

Since Aspen Grove and Sundance *are* just two miles apart, staying at
Sundance is an option even if the conference were held at Aspen Grove.

One final note: the venue would affect the dates of the conference. At
Sundance, the conference would most likely be held the second week of
August (later in August is *very* crowded). At Aspen Grove, the conference
would be held in September.

Please send your suggestions to me and we'll try to accomodate you.
