You 'ad eight characters, you were lucky. I remember using Atom Basic
where you had 26 1 character variables + you had to do manage your own
symbol table for assembly inserts. (Those were the days when code
compacting meant reducing your program from the 8k RAM that you had on
an Acorn system 3 machine used for development to the 6k RAM you had on
an Atom)

Aye, and I also remember before that 'aving to boot computer at school
using front panel switches and paper tape.
