Somehow I have been pointed out as an expert in these matters, so here are a few recommendations for those of you wishing to get together next week. Sudwerk 2001 2nd St Hours: Sun,Mon 12noon-11pm Tu-Sat 12noon-midnight Sudwerk is a "micro-brewery" (i.e., a small brewery with a bar and restaurant attached). The owner/brewer earned his Diplom in brewing at the Technische Ueniversitaet Muenchen. The beer is in the German style, as one would expect, but it is a little lighter to suit American tastes. This is the best place in Davis for beer and conversation. It takes approximately 20-30 minutes to walk to Sudwerk from campus. Mansion Cellars 2nd & E St. Hours: 12noon-1am, approximately. MC has Bass, Harp, and Guinness on tap, as well as a huge selection of bottled beers. You can even get Budweiser. It has a large patio (so does Sudwerk). Nightly, there is live music of various sorts and of varying quality. It is close to campus and in the middle of downtown Davis.
