Dear Sara,

   You wanted to have a short description of HOL activities. Here is a
description of HOL projects at the TFL telecomms research lab in Denmark.

Currently we have two different activities using the HOL system. These projects
are intended to end up with a proof system for a generalised UNITY theory.

Project 1
=========

This work is being made by: Flemming Andersen (fa@tfl.dk)

One part of this project has been to use higher order logic to formalise the
UNITY theory as it is described in the book by Chandy and Misra, Parallel
Programming: a Foundation. The other part has been to get a mechanized proof
system for UNITY using the HOL system.

This work is about to be finished. But some work still remains, and the
documentation in large still has to be written.

Project 2
=========

This work is being made by: Kim Dam Petersen (kimdam@tfl.dk)

In this project the P-Omega model as described by Barendregt and Scott is
defined as a definitional theory in the HOL system.

The short term purpose of this project has been to be able to specify Remote
Module Calls, which needs reflexive domains, in HOL.

The long term purpose is to make a general package, like the type package of
TFM, which allows one to define any valid reflexive domain in HOL.

The definition of the P-Omega model in HOL has been completed. But the
reflexive domain construction based on this model has not been started yet.

Future
======

The first idea is to join the two results to introduce functions into UNITY,
but other ideas are being considered.

Flemming.
