Subject: HOL90 - Aarhus University, Denmark

Here's the information requested about Aarhus. We are keen to
host the meeting in order to give our students the opportunity to attend.
They are presently doing MSc's and obtaining funding for them to visit the
US or Canada is impossible:

Proposal to Host the 1990 HOL User's Group Meeting
==================================================

Venue: Aarhus University, Aarhus, Denmark

The university is situated in a park, a walk away from the
centre of Aarhus. Aarhus started out as a small Viking town
and is now the second largest town in Denmark, after
Copenhagen, with around a third of a million
inhabitants. It is by the sea and has an attractive old
centre with a lively night life and colourful Caf\'es.
Aarhus is well known in Denmark for it's music - ranging
                from rock to symphonic.

Organizer: Glynn Winskel, Computer Science Department,
                Aarhus University

Airport: Tirstrup Airport is 30 minutes (by airport bus)
from the university. Most flights come via
Copenhagen, though there are daiy flights direct
from London Gatwick (at a very good APEX rate).

Seaport: DFDS ferries sail daily from Harwich to Esbjerg
which is 2-3 hours train ride to Aarhus. The boat
trip is overnight, takes 18 hours and is generally pleasant
                (modulo the weather, of course).

Accommodation: Some self-catering rooms (75 kroner/ 7 pounds a night)
and two bedroom apartments can be had in the university
park. Cheaper hotel rooms, with breakfast, cost around
                350 kroner (about 32 pounds) a night.
There is also a youth hostel situated near a small wood,
less than 20 minutes walk away.

Meals: A variety of places to eat in the university park
and nearby town centre. A conference dinner could be
                arranged.

Dates: Open to discussion

Local Interest: Nearby woods and sandy beaches. The botanical gardens, within
walking distance, includes "Den Gamle By" an old village
reconstructed from old buildings from around Denmark.
The local museum, Moesgaard, has recontructed Viking
houses, the Grauballe man (a 2,000 year old mumified
bog man). Possibility of visiting local science park.
