Trev and I met Maurice Wilkes, which was very pleasant. Nice chat, cleared up some points, such as how many buttons there were. The single EP buton was an "evil thing" and Dr Wheeler in particular disliked it. With many people "breathing down our necks" they didn't want to slow the machine down, as they'd built it to be fast at calculating! There were 4 tubes, one big one for the memory tanks that could be switched and three smaller ones showing what the Warwick sim. has at the bottom of the screen, the accumulator, etc. Trevor also sorted some tehnical points such as the sandwich bit when two sorts overwrite two longs (If you write the MS half first then the LS half, the sandwich is zero, otherwise it behaves randomly) and that when writing a constant you can access all 17 bits of a short (in that you do not need to keep 5 for the function bits) And there was something else, I think to do with Initial Orders. If we need to know mroe about InitOrds then apparenlty Wheeler is the man to see.Simon Freytag had a lot of the GUI designed, while Crispin had started coding the CPU. Crispin needed finished Memory and Accumulator objects ASAP, but as Mr. Frankau was absent, we didn't know how far along these were. We suspected that they were coming along, and would probably be ready in the next couple of days. Trevor was slightly frustrated, as he can't do much testing until things are further along, but we reassured him that he'd have plenty to do once stuff was coded.
