The third piano concerto
(Piano concerto no. 3 in C minor, Op. 37)
Beethoven's only concerto in a minor key, this work bears definite
resemblances to Mozart's concerto in D minor (K. 466). The first
movement, like that of Mozart's work, has a long orchestral
introduction before the piano finally makes its entrance.
Certainly, the first movement is the main bulk of the concerto. The
first theme is a sturdy thing.
The concerto has three movements:
- Allegro con brio
- Largo -
- Rondo (Allegro)
The concerto was first performed (with Beethoven at the piano) on 5
April, 1803 in Vienna.
