Why a framing protocol ?

• proved to be efficient with RTP

• reliable multicast transport is much more complex than unicast

• no general solutions

• specific mechanisms have been designed (FEC, SRM, RMP, etc.)

• To permit experimentation with LSMA, Congestion Ctl, etc.
