Recording

First we consider multimedia recording and playback systems which are not specifically designed with multimedia conferencing in mind. Most of these aim to be video-on-demand systems [#!hdtvstor!#]. Some of them aim to produce high quality, synchronised video with attention paid to playback strategies in order to generate 30 frames per second of media[#!rowe!#]. The designers of such systems are interested in high speed discs and storage structures using, for example, RAID disc technology [#!image!#][#!bigmmsrv!#] in order to get high volumes of video data from storage to the user. Other work focuses on designing models for presentation of media [#!kato!#], and has been be extended into the arena of distributed presentation of media [#!bates!#][#!little!#][#!berra!#], admission control for multiple users [#!rangan!#] , and the mix of both analogue and digital components within the infrastructure [#!duval!#].
