First of all, thanks for all your efforts keeping the DHT just to have us DOOMers happy! Second: Actually, the real purpose of this E-mail. You said you'd like to hear from any one with more than two titles to set up the Quake bases. Well, I've got four, and I play Quake... IMHO there IS a real problem: many of the levels in Quake are not made to start them from scratch. All the levels I've put in the hardest set have the same problem: You just can't get 100% kills, because you don't have weapons to do it. The base I've worked out is this: Easiest E1M1 E1M7 Easy E1M2 E1M4 E2M1 E2M2 E3M1 E4M1 Medium E1M3 E1M5 E1M6 E2M3 E3M2 E3M4 E4M2 Hard E1M8 E2M4 E2M7 E3M5 E4M3 E4M4 Hardest E2M5 E2M6 E3M3 E3M6 E3M7 E4M5 E4M6 E4M7 E4M8 (<= Too many!) And a few comments: E1M1: Simple. E1M2: Easy, a Super Shotgun party. E1M3: Tricky at the beguinning, just keep stuff for the end. The rest is piece of cake. E1M4: The Super Nailgun and pretty wimp monsters ake this level easy. E1M5: Have to be a little careful until you get the Super Nailgun. The rest is easy (Super Nailgun + Quad damage = Easy and fun). E1M6: Although there are two Shamblers by the end, it's easy if they don't surprise you (i.e., you know the level). E1M7: It's SO simple. E1M8: Not that hard, but the hardest of episode one. There are lots of nails but no Nailgun or Super Nailgun. E2M1: Lots of power ups and guns. E2M2: Not many direct fights, many can be done from distance. E2M3: The first Death Knights, together with a hard end put this level into the medium set. E2M4: Lots of monsters, no Super Shotgun and a hard end. E2M5: The problem is the lack of firepower, just the shotgun, the rocket launcher and the thunderbolt with very few cells. E2M6: This is impossible (that's what I think). No weapons, just the shotgun and the thunderbolt with not many cells, and no rocket or grenade launcher to kill the zombies... E2M7: Again, lack of weapons but at least you have the grenade launcher and (barely) enough shells. E3M1: Easy, lots of power ups, armour... E3M2: Maybe easy, just a few ogres and a couple of easy to take Shamblers. E3M3: Another impossible one. There's no way to blow the zombies away (no rocket launcher or even a Quad damage to do it with the Shotgun). E3M4: A hard start until you get the rocket launcher, the rest is quite easy. E3M5: Very hard, no nailgun again. E3M6: Again, only the Shotgun to kill the baddies. It CAN be done (I have done it a couple of times) but is DAMN hard. Lots of nasty axe fights. E3M7: No way to do it unless you use the Quad to kill the zombies (and you must be very quick, I've never been able to do it). E4M1: Easy. Nailgun party + 2 Quads... E4M2: Interestng level. Four Vores and a Shambler, very fun. E4M3: Damn hard, specially because of the Spawns. E4M4: This is how the hard maps should be. Lots of monsters, heavy frag BUT enough stuff to kill them. Easy to get lost, but nice. E4M5: To get 100% kills you must keep all the Quads for the Zombies and the rest is damn hard => Nasty. E4M6: Let's face it, you don't have enough firepower to get the thunderbolt, and if yu do it it's not even a bit useful. The rocket launcher is only useful for the final room (with the Quad and the Invulnerability). E4M7: Only the Shotgun, and tehre are not even enough shells. E4M8: Even the Quads are not enough to kill the zombies (they don't last enough). If I've missed something (like a Nailgun on any of the hardest levels or something like that), tell me so. As you can see, the ID guys were not thinking in this feature (the starting from scratch). Maybe (maybe!) this can be solved by allowing cheats. "Cheats!", you may think. Not all, of course, but allow the GIVE 4 and GIVE 6 cheats in those levels with no Nailgun or Super Nailgun and those with no Rocket or Grenade Launcher. Of course, this is just my opinion. Maybe the Quake GODS don't agree with me, but I'd like to see DEMs proving me wrong ;o) About the DHT6, it looks like it works great. Maybe adding a feature to change some of the registered info would be very handy (for people like me who always make mistakes in these forms ;o) ). OK, enough blabbering.
