The United Nations High Commission for Refugees administered cash grants to refugees returning into Afghanistan from surrounding countries after the (2002) fall of the Taleban, using iris recognition in lieu of any other forms of identification. Some 800,000 persons were processed through this programme using iris recognition. This picture shows the Takhtabaig Voluntary Repatriation Centre, on the Pakistan-Afghan border.
