Structued Hardware Design 1A Learners Guide 1A Note: the published syllabus booklet is not correct because this course has been re-jigged. The ECAD component has been moved to the new 1B ECAD course, Michaelmas 98. There are now five topics 1. Building Blocks for Digital Electronics. You should learn and understand all of the digital circuits given and understand the need and purpose of the analog circuits. 2. Clocking and Synchronous FSM Combination. You should learn and understand WHY and WHEN multiple clocks need to be used in real designs and realise that many problems can be avoided if we use only a single clock. 3. Technology, Speed, Power and Gate Delays. You should learn that various technologies are available for making hardware designs and understand WHY and HOW a design is typically divided up into modules. 4. Hardware and Software Design Partition. Ditto. 5. Further Design Examples and Circuit Structures By looking at further design examples, we gain more experience and insight. The section on testing in the printed notes will not be covered in SHD this year.
