Supervisions in VLSI Design

• Lectures will be given on Monday, Wedneday and Friday at 12 noon in the Hopkinson Room, starting on Friday 6 October.
• Example classes will be held on Fridays 13, 20, 27 October and 3 November at 14:00 in the Hopkinson Room. The general format will be general questions and answers to clarify lecture material followed by discussion of some relevant Tripos questions.
• Supervisions will be organised for some point between Monday 13 November and Friday 24 November. Work will be set by the penultimate examples class and should be handed in by noon on Monday 6 November to book a supervision.
• A revision class will be organised for the Easter term 2001.

Exercises for the first Examples Class

• CST 1995 Paper 7 Question 2
  Draw both the stick diagram and the layout. The discussion about symmetric rise and fall times requires some thought about the relative resistances of conducting n-channel and p-channel FETs.
• CST 1996 Paper 9 Question 1
  The barrel shifter has not been presented in lectures yet, but that need not stop you thinking about it.
• CST 1998 Paper 7 Question 1
  To drive a large load the resistance of the conducting transistors in an invertor must be kept low. Think about the physical shape that will help this. Buffer chains have not been presented in lectures yet, but that need not stop you thinking about them.
