Third Essay (due Jan 17)

Network Architectures

This essay is to be about trying to define "network architecture".

This is a difficult task, and it may be easier to write an essay about what is
not architecture. A specific system may give ideas that could change a 
network architecture. What is trickier is to see when there are papers that
really shift the paradigm (design pattern) fundamentally. 

To write this essay, I'd encourage you to pick any 2 papers we have discussed
this term, and use them as working examples for what is and what is not
architectural (as opposed to "just" engineering). See

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to e-mail me at any point
(including over the vacation) and I will try to answer. If you write a draft
of the essay and want feedback on it early, before giving it in, that is 
also fine.

Submissions need be no more than 2-4 pages of notes
Remember to cite any sources you use!

Don't forget that you should hand in your annotated bibliography of all the
papers that you have read during this course, at the same time as this essay.
