We are constructively dissatisfied. Googlers can’t help but look at the world and ask why things work the way they do. All of our projects begin with that simple question and a desire to find the best answer possible. That can mean bigger answers, faster answers, radical answers or more elegant answers. And sometimes the answer can’t simply be found – it must be built. Crafted, coded, hacked and patched into existence. It isn’t always easy. In fact, the harder a problem is, the more Googlers want to work on it. But the end result is worth the effort. The opportunity to create new answers that impact millions if not billions of people keeps us coming in to work every day with brand new questions.
When you join a team at Google, you’re a big part of something small. We may have outgrown the garage we started in, but one thing has stayed the same – we have no intention of becoming a conventional company. That spirit makes us work differently, with small independent teams that are focused on bringing Google technology to answer big questions. It’s like a network of start up teams that are backed with the tech infrastructure and resources you’d expect from Google. That means huge impact within your team to go along with your huge impact in the world.
So bring the big questions, help us find the best answers, and come prepared to build things that have meaningful impact with a lot of people. Every new hire changes the course of this company, and we’re curious – where will you take us?

Telensa is a leading wireless monitoring and control system supplier with a strong market presence in the development of smart cites, notably in the remote control and management of street lighting and parking. We were established in 2005 as a part of independent electronic design consultancy Plextek Ltd. Plextek’s wireless technology is used in medical, security, vehicle tracking and smart metering applications. As an independent company, Telensa's initial emphasis was on addressing the needs of the street lighting industry, particularly the fast-growing central management systems (CMS) market, in which it is now the leading player. Its solution, called PLANet® for lighting, is a bi-directional radio-enabled system that allows full control and monitoring of street lighting across a wide area. It is now being used and installed by many of the UK’s major local authorities across a significant area of the UK.
Wireless monitoring and control is helping these authorities to save millions of pounds. However, the idea behind such systems – known as the Internet of Things (IoT) – has many other applications. IoT refers to objects able to communicate with other objects and people but also to respond to their requests or needs. IoT underpins the PLANet solution, which is now being adapted for new uses: ultra-scalable, private network solutions that enable immediate monetization of IoT applications from day one. The first of these new uses is PARKet, Telensa’s wireless parking space monitoring system. PARKet detects cars, monitors parking space availability and delivers real time information to drivers about where to find a parking space. PARKet has already been rolled out in Moscow where it has reduced traffic congestion by over a quarter.
