ATM Infra-red Basestation for the HAN

Download PostScript version here.

Overview

This module converts between Infra-Red and ATM
using a simple mapping between an ATM cell and
a series of IR pulses. Therefore a wide variety of
Infra-Red formats are possible, determined by the
capacity of the agent at the other end of the ATM
virtual circuit.

IR Specifications

38-40 kHz Needle Pulse
Compatible with all major systems
Remote decoding/encoding.

ATM Cell Format

Header : GFC=0, VPI=0, VCI= 49, PT=0, CLP=0
VCI=49 InfraRed in and Out.

Options

Line or local power.
A production version would
probably also support IRDS
communication.

The Warren Project

This module is an experimental
hardware device being developed at the University
of Cambridge Computer Laboratory as part of the
Warren Project. The Warren project is funded by Virata
and has the aim of developing a set of low-cost ATM devices,
including an ATM switch.
