CD Player with ATM I/O for the HAN

Overview

This CD player performs all of the normal functions
of a CD player, but also has an ATM25 interface. When
in play mode, audio cells are generated as a CBR stream.
Infrared received by the unit is relayed over a separate
VCI and incoming commands on the same VCI and of the
same IR format are processed by the device.

Audio Specifications

Sample precision: 16 bit stereo
Sample rate: 44.1 ksps
Cell rate: 3675 cells per second.

ATM Cell Format

GFC=0, VPI=0, VCI= 48/49, PT=0, CLP=0
VCI=48 Payload=12 Samples of 16 bit audio
VCI=49 InfraRed in and Out.

The Warren Project

This CD player is an experimental
hardware device being developed at the University
of Cambridge Computer Laboratory as part of the
Warren Project. The Warren project is funded by Virata
and has the aim of developing a set of low-cost ATM devices,
including an ATM switch.
